Prostate Cancer Screening

Prostate Cancer:

Annual Prostate Cancer Screening Saves Lives...

One in six men will get prostate
cancer, but if caught early, nearly
        100% survive
.

Early prostate cancer has no symptoms,
that's why
screening is so important.

African American men have an even higher risk: one in four men.

...This September Perhaps Screening Will Save Yours
(or someone you love)

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. So this week's healthy tip is dedicated to making sure there are a few things you are aware of concerning prostate cancer.

First, many experts agree that every man will eventually develop prostate cancer if he lives long enough. Yes, EVERY MAN.

Why? Unfortunately, no one really knows for sure what causes prostate cancer. Just that as men age, the prostate gland naturally (and inevitably) gets larger AND that this gland is prone to develop and harbor cancerous cells. So, when it expands with age, so expands any cancer that may be present.

Just because the cause of prostate cancer isn't known, there are risk factors that are linked to its development.

  • Men aged 65 and older

  • African-American men

  • Men who have  a parent or sibling with prostate cancer

  • Men who have had recurring prostate infections

  • Men with a history of sexually transmitted disease

  • Men who have taken testosterone

  • Exposure to cancer causing chemicals

  • Married men

  • High-fat diet low on fruits and vegetables

Possible symptoms of prostate cancer can include one or more of the following:

  • Pain or bruning sensation during urination

  • Frequent urination

  • A decrease in the size and force of urine flow

  • An inability to urinate

  • Blood in the urine

  • Continuing lower back, pelvic, or suprapubic discomfort

  • ABSOLUTELY NO SYMPTOMS AT ALL (which is the most common symptom of all!!!!)

Many of these symptoms are not even caused by cancer but by an enlarged prostate (benign) which may itself be a risk for prostate cancer.

I won't confuse you further with the details of how they test for prostate cancer. I will tell you that early detection and prevention seem to be the key.

Prevention has EVERYTHING to do with diet. The optimal diet should include lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and a good multi vitamin/mineral supplement. This supplement should include CoQ10, Selenium, Lycopene, Zinc and plenty of antioxidant vitamins like C and E.  Also helpful are Saw Palmetto, kelp/seaweed.

To go along with diet and prevention is early detection. Men in their 30's and 40's rarely develop prostate cancer, but after age 50, the numbers increase steadily. By the age of 80, 80% of all men have prostate cancer to some degree.  The good news is that 99.3% of men diagnosed early enough survive.

Currently, there are two main screening tests for prostate cancer available from your health care provider. These tests are called:

  • Digital Rectal Exam (DRE)
  • Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA)

Every man over 50 should have a DRE and PSA test every year. Men in the high-risk groups mentioned above should begin having their annual exams at 45.

We have had success using essential oils to reduce the size of enlarged prostate gland and lower PSA levels.

Our ministry is and always will be to help people identify health challenges, develop a plan towards optimal health, and educate on God's plan for essential oils in healing. This always includes free consultation and application of (anointing with) essential oils. We are happy to minister to you or someone you love.
