Peppermint Essential Oil (cont.)

Relieves tension headaches as good as (but safer than) most over-the-counter medications.

Peppermint Oil

Our peppermint oil is a deluxe blend of the common Mentha piperata and Mentha arvensis known as peppermint Japanese.

Peppermint Japanese is known for it’s high menthol content. It is so high in fact, that menthol crystals sometimes form right on the leaves.

History: Peppermint oil is one of the world’s oldest medicinal herbs with documented use in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. Ppeppermint and it’s name has it’s roots in Greek mythology. Pluto – god of the dead – fell in love with Minthe, herself a beautiful nymph. Pluto’s goddess wife Persephone became jealous and turned Minthe into a plant, but out of respect for her beauty, she ensured that she would have a wonderful and fragrant aroma.

Common Uses: Peppermint is widely credited with being a digestive aid. Its leaves contain menthol, which is a proven aid to digestion. The familiar aroma of Mentha piperita is known for both its warming and cooling properties. Friendly to the sinuses, peppermint is also useful to the muscular system, especially for women during monthly cycles or menopause. Peppermint is commonly known from peppermint tea, chewing gum or candy, but the Essential Oil is much more strong and concentrated and should be used in moderation. Very fresh and clean smelling. Refreshing, mental stimulant, energizing, used to enhance well-being of digestive and respiratory system. Relieves bad breath. Good nerve tonic that helps with mental fatigue and nervous stress.

Peppermint oil is credited as being useful in combating stomach ailments. It is also viewed as an antispasmodic and antimicrobic agent. Many people will associate it with being a flavoring or scenting agent in foods, beverages, skin and hair care products (where it has a cooling effect by constricting capillaries and helping with bruises and sore joints), as well as soaps and candles. This is largely due to its high menthol content.

Blends well with: Eucalyptus, Lavender, Marjoram, Citrus oils, Basil, Bergamot, Cajeput, Cedarwood, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Niaouli, Pine, Rosemary, Spearmint and Thyme.

Cautions: No known toxicity. Use well diluted since high concentration can cause a burning sensation and sensitation due to the menthol content.
